Watch as the Dream Takes Form. . .
It's been over two
years since we had the notion to design and build our own home. Few of the homes on the
market really excited us, and the ones that did were in the wrong neighborhood, or had
something else about them we weren't satisfied with. So after overcoming a great deal of
financial and bureaucratic adversity, we're finally underway!
Our new home is barely within reach of the city limits of Las Vegas. We figure it'll be
like downtown in a few years, but for now it reminds us of the way Las Vegas used to feel,
before the "goldrush."
Here's an early shot on our land of Steve with Margie Kostbar, one of our terrific
"cousins" from Cleveland, Ohio.
Below are a series of pictures showing the progress of getting the slab poured, and the
ground floor walls up.
It's our first dinner at the new digs, thanks to brother Rob and his ability to turn a
pizza take-out into an historic event (he took the picture).
Steve's been doing electrical work on all kinds of buildings for years. Imagine his
surprise when he saw me go to work on the carpentry!
Wow! That didn't take long. It's only May and we're already building the second story.
We soon discovered we had some well-known neighbors in our new
"hood," including Penn Jillette, of the entertainment team Penn & Teller.
This fact was called to our attention by the "unusual" nature of his house,
which is visible down the road from what will be our backyard.
